Artificial Intelligence and Meta-Domains – What Revolutions for Epimetheus and Prometheus?
Artificial intelligence is revolutionizing fields far beyond its traditional uses, raising new ethical, economic, and labor-related issues. The myth of Prometheus represents AI’s great potential, capable of innovation and offering societal benefits, but also highlights the risks associated with the loss of control and the ethical responsibilities of those who develop and use it. Technology can indeed perform complex tasks autonomously, but who is truly responsible in the case of errors or harm? And how can we define a “morality” for machines?
On the other hand, the myth of Epimetheus reminds us of the importance of a reflective and cautious approach. While AI evolves rapidly, it is crucial to monitor its effects, learn from mistakes, and consider the consequences of technological choices, especially in the labor market. The spread of automation creates economic benefits, but it also presents challenges for employment, requiring new rights and protections for workers, as well as planning for those at risk of being excluded from these changes.
AI, therefore, represents a complex challenge that requires a balance between the Promethean drive for innovation and the Epimethean caution of reflection. Only by combining these two approaches can we build a future where AI serves humanity in an ethical, sustainable, and inclusive way.
